visionintime.typepad.com > SQUIRREL FAMILY

The World Book Encylopedia reports there are more than 300 kinds of Squirrels in the world. Some, with large furry tails, climb trees. Others, with the cute, little tails live on the ground. A few are called "Flying Squirrels" but they only gluide from one spot to another. Flying is still reserved for the birds. The official name for the squirrel family is "Sciuridae"... but most of us just think their fun to watch and photograph. I know you have seen squirrels before, but you may have not been able to get as close as I will take you today. The animals that are in the Squirrel Family are numerous. They include Tree Squirrels, Chipmunks, Marmots, Prairie Dogs and Woodchucks, Gray Squirrels, Fox Squirrels, Red Squirrels and Flying Squirrels. In fact, squirrels populate most of the world in one fashion or another but they are not found in Australia, Madagascar and in some places in South America.
